Iain Maloney is the author of nine books, including The Only Gaijin in the Village (2020) and The Japan Lights (2023). Originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, he now lives in Gifu, Japan. He teaches writing and literature at Sugiyama Jogakuen University in Nagoya, and writes for many outlets including The Japan Times. He has published travel memoirs: The Japan Lights, (Tippermuir 2023), The Only Gaijin in the Village, (Birlinn 2020); novels: In the Shadow of Piper Alpha (Tippermuir 2022), Silma Hill (Freight 2015), First Time Solo (Freight 2014); a novella, Life is Elsewhere/Burn Your Flags (Liminal Ink 2021); Two books of poetry: Envy the Seasons (Tapsalteerie 2022); Fractures (Tapsalteerie 2016); and edited the collection In the Empty Places (Bantuan 2014).
