Peter Makin was born in 1946 in rural Lincolnshire, and educated at the local grammar school and at King’s College, London. He has taught in Mali, England, and for many years in Japan, where he lived in a mountain valley north of Kyoto. A scholar of modernist verse, his publications include critical books on Ezra Pound (Provence and Pound and Pound’s Cantos) and Basil Bunting (Bunting: The Shaping of His Verse). An earlier version of Ato (included in Neck of the Woods) was published by Pine Wave Press in 2002.
