Yoko Danno is a Japanese poet who writes poetry solely in English. Her poems have appeared internationally in many journals and anthologies, both online and in print. Her recent books of poetry include Epitaph for Memories (The Bunny and the Crocodile, 2002), The Blue Door, a collaboration with James C. Hopkins (Word Works, 2006), a sleeping tiger dreams of manhattan: poetry, photographs and sound co-authored with James C. Hopkins and including music by Bernard Stoltz (Ikuta Press, 2008), trilogy & Hagoromo: A Celestial Robe (Ikuta, 2010), and Aquamarine (Glass Lyre, 2014). Her collected poems, Further Center: Poems 1970–1998 (Ikuta Press, 2017), includes an introduction by Gary Snyder. Her translation, Songs and Stories of the Kojiki, a collection of creation myths, songs and historical narratives that were compiled in the eighth century in Japan, was published by Ahadada in 2008; the revised second edition appeared from Red Moon Press in 2014; a third, illustrated, edition is in progress. She lives in Kobe, where she runs the Ikuta Press.
